The NBPA honoured Tim MacLaggan of Moncton with the New Practitioner Award on Saturday at their Awards Gala held as part of the New Brunswick Pharmacy Conference.
This award is presented to a new pharmacist (five years or less since graduation) for exceptional service through innovation or contributions to his/her community. Laura DeCoste of St. Stephen and Daniel Pike of Fredericton also received this year's award.
After graduating with his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Dalhousie University in 2006, Tim completed a residency at the Moncton Hospital. He received the 2007 Pharmacy Residency Award from the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists (CSHP) for his residency project "Identification of Learning Needs of Maritime Hospital Pharmacists."
Shortly after completing his residency and joining the pharmacy team at the Moncton Hospital, Tim successfully applied for a clinical assignment in the Medical-Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where he quickly developed into a capable team member and clinician, well-known for his quiet yet effective manner.
Over the past five years, Tim has shown himself to be highly motivated. He is involved in numerous committees and working groups, including developing clinical protocols and implementing a standardized electronic database. He serves as a clinical preceptor for experiential training rotations in critical and intensive care. His clinical expertise was recognized when he was appointed as a content expert to the National Emergency Stockpile Working Group, and he was recently appointed to the position of Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Infectious Diseases.
The New Brunswick Pharmacy Conference was held in Fredericton from Friday, June 10, through Sunday, June 12, 2011. The New Brunswick Pharmacists’ Association is the voice of pharmacists in the province, committed to providing leadership for the profession and improving the health of New Brunswickers.
