The NBPA honoured Daniel Pike of Fredericton with the New Practitioner Award on Saturday at their Awards Gala held as part of the New Brunswick Pharmacy Conference.
This award is presented to a new pharmacist (five years or less since graduation) for exceptional service through innovation or contributions to his/her community. Tim MacLaggan of Moncton and Laura DeCoste of St. Stephen also received this year's award.
Daniel graduated from Dalhousie University in 2009 and has taken on several initiatives as a staff pharmacist at the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy at the Fredericton Co-Op. He is involved in specialized compounding, researching formulas, and creating unique preparations for clients.
Daniel was one of the first pharmacists in the province to acquire his Certificate of Registration for the administration of injections, and provided hundreds of injections for clients during the recent flu season. He attended several Travel Consult seminars and is responsible for the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy providing a Travel Health Clinic for its clients. He studied the Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) modules provided by the Professional Compounding Centres of America (PCCA), and has incorporated this knowledge into practice by conducting BHRT seminars and individual consults for clients.
Daniel is sought out by clients for his knowledge of medications, diseases, and health concerns. He provides superior patient counselling and is eager to research any topic. He provides service to the public that is well above and beyond the normal practice.
The New Brunswick Pharmacy Conference was held in Fredericton from Friday, June 10, through Sunday, June 12, 2011. The New Brunswick Pharmacists’ Association is the voice of pharmacists in the province, committed to providing leadership for the profession and improving the health of New Brunswickers.
