The NBPA honoured Hampton pharmacist Laura DeMerchant with the Scott Knowles Memorial New Practitioner Service Award during the New Brunswick Pharmacists' Association's hybrid Annual General Meeting and Awards Presentation on Sunday, October 1, 2023.
This award is presented to a new pharmacist (five years or less since graduation) for exceptional service through innovation or contributions to his/her community.
Laura graduated from Dalhousie University in 2020 and returned to New Brunswick to practice pharmacy. Starting her career during a pandemic presented unique challenges, but her commitment to her patients and community is unwavering. As a pharmacist, she has been one of the most accessible healthcare professionals, providing critical care and support to her patients. She is known for listening without judgment, communicating complex health problems in a clear and caring way, and developing a rapport with her patients.
One area where Laura has made a significant impact is in diabetes management. She recognized a gap in accessible diabetes care in her community, and became a Certified Diabetes Educator. Her efforts to provide education, support, and resources have made a meaningful difference in the lives of diabetes patients in her community. Laura's commitment to exceptional care and patient advocacy is truly inspiring.
The New Brunswick Pharmacists’ Association is the voice of pharmacists in the province and is committed to providing leadership for the profession and improving the health of New Brunswickers.
