New Brunswick pharmacists gathered in Saint John on Saturday to pay tribute to the best and brightest in their field.
The NBPA honoured Moncton pharmacist Rochelle Johnston with the Scott Knowles Memorial New Practitioner Service Award at the recent meeting and dinner of the New Brunswick Pharmacists' Association, the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists, and the New Brunswick Pharmaceutical Society.
This award is presented to a new pharmacist (five years or less since graduation) for exceptional service through innovation or contributions to his/her community. The award has been renamed in honour of former New Brunswick Pharmacists’ Association president Scott Knowles of Miramichi who died in September 2011.
Rochelle is a staff pharmacist at the Moncton Hospital who works with patients in the coronary care unit. Known for her dedication and work ethic, Rochelle has realized success through her participation in several innovative research projects, including one that studied methods to obtain medication histories. She was also part of a team that earned a Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists’ 2012 Safe Medication Practices Award.
“The pharmacists honoured have shown tireless dedication and commitment to their patients, their profession and their communities,” says NBPA President Alistair Bursey. “They have improved the lives of their patients, helped people in their communities and enhanced our profession.”
Approximately 150 pharmacists from across the province attended the annual conference held over the weekend at the Hilton Hotel in Saint John. The conference included the annual general meetings of the New Brunswick Pharmacists’ Association, the NB Chapter of the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists and the New Brunswick Pharmaceutical Society, professional development sessions and a keynote address by Stéphane Robichaud, Chief Executive Officer of the New Brunswick Health Council.
The New Brunswick Pharmacists’ Association is the voice of pharmacists in the province and is committed to providing leadership for the profession and improving the health of New Brunswickers.
