Long-time Nackawic pharmacist Gregory MacFarlane has earned the 2018 Bowl of Hygeia for his outstanding contributions to his profession and community.
“Gregory MacFarlane is a positive and dedicated pharmacist who truly cares about his patients and his community,” says Andrew Brillant, President of the New Brunswick Pharmacists’ Association. “Greg’s contributions as a health care provider, a business owner and a community volunteer have made a significant difference in the lives of his patients and improved the quality of life of his community.”
The Bowl of Hygeia is the most widely recognized international symbol for the pharmacy profession and is considered one of the profession’s most prestigious awards. The New Brunswick Pharmacists’ Association (NBPA) will bestow the award on MacFarlane on Saturday in Fredericton at the New Brunswick Pharmacy Awards, held this year as part of the Canadian Pharmacists Conference.
MacFarlane has owned and operated both Ryan’s Pharmacy in Nackawic and The Medicine Shoppe/Fredericton Co-op for 17 years. A long-time fitness/wellness enthusiast who has completed an Ironman triathlon, he founded Liv9 Nutrition in 2012, a life sciences company that designs, manufactures and distributes high-quality nutraceuticals. Nackawic’s current Deputy Mayor, MacFarlane has a long history of community involvement, including Founder and President of the Mactaquac County Chamber of Commerce; Board Member of the Greater Fredericton Economic Development Board; PSSC Member for Nackawic Elementary School; PSSC President for Nackawic Middle School; President of The Fredericton Playhouse. He’s served as a Board Member for the New Brunswick Pharmacists’ Association and as Chair of the New Brunswick College of Pharmacists’ complaints committee. He’s also President of the Nackawic Bend Ski Club, an instructor with the Canadian Ski Alliance and Founder and Race Director of Run the River.
“I strive to maintain an active role in my community in an effort to make a difference. Engaging others has evolved into a passion that motivates me every day,” says MacFarlane, who lives in Nackawic with his wife Anna and their three children.
The New Brunswick Pharmacists’ Association is the voice of pharmacists in the province and is committed to providing leadership for the profession and improving the health of New Brunswickers.
