A Community Pharmacist's Guide to Assessing & Treating Pharyngitis

Pharyngitis Clinic

A program offered by the NBPA with Dalhousie University Continuing Pharmacy Education.

Join Dr. Emily Black (PharmD) and Nurse Practitioner Laurie Graham for a 4-hour clinical workshop with hands-on training. Compare and contrast viral and bacterial pharyngitis, provide guidance on physical assessment and interpretation of microbiologic testing, identify therapeutic goals and treatments, recognize and refer complications, complete a throat swab, and describe the sensitivity and specificity of rapid antigen detection tests, molecular tests, and throat cultures in diagnosing pharyngitis.

This program has been accredited for a Maximum of 2 CEUs (1 CEU/hour) by Continuing Pharmacy Education, College of Pharmacy, Dalhousie University.

Two opportunities to learn: register for Saturday, September 28 here, or for Sunday, September 29 here.

Please note that at this time, the assessment, testing, and treatment for Group A Strep is limited to the Pharmacist Care Clinic pilot. However, the NBPA is sponsoring this education session to ensure that pharmacists are prepared in the event that scope is expanded to all pharmacists.
