Your Pharmacist Can...

Help You Stop Smoking
Help You Stop Smoking

Your New Brunswick pharmacist can help you develop an individualized plan to stop smoking.

Your local pharmacist can provide advice and counselling about:

  • Smoking cessation medications (both prescription and over the counter)
  • How to manage nicotine cravings and withdrawal symptoms
  • How to handle relapses
  • How to find other support networks and resources to help you quit

Many pharmacists are trained in smoking cessation and offer private and customized counselling programs that provide in-depth support and long term follow-up with patients trying to quit smoking.

The New Brunswick Pharmacists Association is also in the midst of a pilot project that allows some pharmacists to prescribe smoking cessation medication as part of a quit-smoking program. Eight pharmacies from  across the province are participating in this pilot: Wal-Mart Pharmacy, Fredericton; Sobey’s Pharmacy, Moncton; Lawton’s Pharmacy, Moncton; Guardian Pharmacy, Woodstock; Superstore Pharmacy, Rothesay; Kent Guardian Pharmacy, Richibucto; Shoppers Drug Mart, Saint John and Pharmacie Jean Coutu, Bathurst.

This pilot will provide insights into how to better support and improve our service offering as a profession, as well as to showcase yet another valued service pharmacists in New Brunswick can provide.
