Jake Reid, a senior non-profit leader with over 25 years of experience in the health sector, is the new Executive Director of the New Brunswick Pharmacists’ Association (NBPA).

Jake comes to the NBPA from Diabetes Canada, where he has worked since 2005. In his most recent role as National Director of Government Relations, Jake oversaw the work of the Public Affairs and Advocacy team and led strategic government relations and advocacy initiatives across the country to help proactively influence diabetes and healthcare-related policies, legislation and regulations. He has been involved in many government committees and partnerships that have resulted in positive policy changes and new provincial health programs. Jake has also previously worked at New Brunswick Easter Seals and Camp Rotary.

“Jake brings tremendous experience, strategic leadership and vision to our association,” said Christine Boudreau, President of the NBPA Board of Directors. “He’s clearly committed to making positive changes to help New Brunswickers, and we look forward to working with him as we continue to support New Brunswick pharmacists and enhance the pharmacy profession.”

Jake is a graduate of the University of New Brunswick from both the Kinesiology and MBA programs. His appointment was effective September 8, 2020.

“Healthcare is undergoing extraordinary change – never more than now during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Mr. Reid. “Pharmacists and their teams are at the front and centre of patient care, and I look forward to being a strong voice on their behalf so they can continue to provide the best possible care to their patients.”

Janet MacDonnell, who has served as the Interim Executive Director, has agreed to stay on part-time until the end of the year as a Pharmacist Consultant and to assist with the leadership transition.

“On behalf of New Brunswick pharmacists, thank you to Janet for her outstanding work in support of our profession over the past several months. When she took on the interim position, she did not expect to be faced with guiding our profession during a global pandemic,” said Ms. Boudreau. “Her tireless efforts, pragmatic and collaborative approach and kindness will not be forgotten.”

The New Brunswick Pharmacists Association is the voice of pharmacists in New Brunswick and is committed to providing leadership for the profession and to improving the health of New Brunswickers.
